The origin of Dal Makhani goes down to the era prior to the partition of India. People from Peshwar unofficially hold the patent for this dish. The region was in Western Punjab which is now in the country of Pakistan. As we all know during partition many people migrated from Pakistan to India and in this process they carried along with them the tradition and food habit of Dal Makhani to India. Now the two Punjabs on either side though are divided by the manmade borders but they are still united by their love and fondness for Dal Makhani. These dishes are made of butter and dairy lovers have special feelings for these dishes. Dal makhani is popularly eaten with rotis or breads but people also try this with rice as well, as per their food choices and habits.
